Betsy Markey, Democratic candidate for Congress in Colorado’s Fourth District, today issued the following statement regarding Marilyn Musgrave’s vote against the 2007 Farm Bill (HR 2419):
“Today, Marilyn Musgrave showed her true colors once again by protecting narrow partisan and ideological interests, rather than looking out for Colorado’s farmers. The 2007 Farm Bill was designed to assist farmers, and will bring hundreds of millions of dollars to Colorado crop growers. Additionally, it will provide millions of dollars for agricultural research, benefiting institutions like Colorado State University, one of the largest employers in the Fourth Congressional District.
“Unfortunately, today’s vote makes it more clear than ever that while Congresswoman Musgrave talks about changing her habits in Washington, her votes are part of the same old pattern. She still cares more about partisanship than the people of this district. I strongly disagree with the Congresswoman’s vote against our farmers, and will work hand-in-hand with the agricultural and research communities of Colorado when I am in Congress.”
Betsy Markey most recently was Northern Colorado Regional Director for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar. She is a successful businesswoman, having founded and grown a successful high-tech business and a local retail shop. She is also a past high-ranking official in the U.S. State Department.
